Lavazza – it’s one of the most famous brands in the world of coffee. True aficionados know it’s an Italian-made cup of Joe and can’t wait to taste it to get all of the aromas of Italy. And, I have to say, I was feeling the same way when I got the powdered beans home, so I flicked on the brewer and got my taste buds ready.

Sadly, I was left underwhelmed, to say the least. Keep reading to find out why.

Lavazza Perfetto Coffee Review

At the start, my anticipation was building because the scents coming from the Lavazza Perfetto beans were promising. The sweet, pleasant aromas filled the air, and I could taste a cinnamon-like flavor. Plus, the grains were moist and dark; I thought that meant a powerful experience was in the offing. It was, but not in the way I expected.

As soon as it hit my lips, an extremely acidic taste took over and overpowered my senses. It was sour, too, and almost made me feel as if I was eating a tub of lemons rather than drinking a mug of java. In the end, I could only decide that the grains were off or out of date because that’s what it tasted like.

Looking at the Lavazza packaging on the table, I couldn’t quite believe how a brand that relies on quality was so far below the grade. There was none of the richness I expected, and the robust flavors were too intense and didn’t mix well. Safe to say, I didn’t order another packet after I got through my first and only cup.

Could It Have Been A Bad Batch?

The jury is still out. In my opinion, the coffee tasted old, as if it was almost off when I brewed it. And, there are other people who I’ve come across who haven’t been impressed with this product, one going as far as to call it bitumen! Two things that keep coming up over and over are the fact that Lavazza has changed its packaging and beans. The result is a grade “5” dark roast that looks like a “3” at best. Safe to say, they agree with my Lavazza Perfetto coffee review!

However, there are a lot of 5* reviews on the internet too. Some of the things the lovers can’t get enough of are the smooth, velvety texture and delicious flavor. They say it requires a good espresso machine and a quality barista, so maybe a professional touch will result in the coffee that we have come to love and respect from Lavazza.

Would I Try It Again?

After my experience, I’m torn because I’m not sure if it can improve its score in my eyes. But I might give it a go at a restaurant or a coffee shop where I didn’t have to buy a full bag of ground beans.

How To Make It Taste Better

If you are skeptical about Lavazza Perfetto, you, like me, will want to try and soften the taste. One of the best ways I found was to mix in syrup to counteract the bitterness. Vanilla is always a solid choice because it’s subtle and doesn’t overpower the coffee completely. Also, I wouldn’t take it as a shot or anything small in size. On its own, it’s very strong, which might not be a good thing. I recommend taking it as a coffee in a regular mug.

Another thing to keep in mind is the moistness of the grains. This could be because of the oils from the original bean, and it’s possible for them to affect the taste. They can even go off, which would explain why my cup tasted like an old batch. So, don’t wait around, as the flavors might ferment over time. If you do store it for a while, keep it in an airtight container.

Lavazza Perfetto Coffee Score (1/5)

I’m going to have to give this one a one because it was a very disappointing cup of coffee. Unlike the quality I was expecting from a reputable Italian brand, it turned out to be bitter and sour simultaneously and didn’t hit any of the high notes.
